Udupi: Villagers catch battery thief; hand him over to police

Kaup: A thief who stole solar batteries across Belapu gram panchayat limits has been caught by the panchayat’s former president and other villagers and handed over to police on the morning of Friday, October 30.

The accused has been identified as Kiran, resident of Kalaturu village and a history-sheeter.

Kiran was caught while stealing the battery from a solar-powered streetlight at Patel Road in Paniuru.

Villagers immediately informed Shirva police station and officials from the station later arrived at the village and took Kiran into custody.

Former Belapu gram panchayat president Deviprasad Shetty and other villagers Sudarshan Poojary, Ganesh Poojary, Yogesh Poojary, Sujit Kumar, Anil Kumar and Ram Prakash Shetty were involved in apprehending Kiran.
