Udupi: Woman files harrasment case against husband, his family

A woman has lodged a police complaint against her husband Yogesh and his family for allegedly harassing her for money and threatening her life.
The woman Swathi, a resident of Thenkanidiyur had a love marriage with Yogesh. Problems began between the couple when Yogesh reportedly lost significant amounts of money in online gaming and incurred heavy debts. Later he allegedly pressured Swathi to bring money from her parental home to repay the loans.
In her complaint, Swathi stated that her husband had pawned her jewelry and subjected her to physical abuse. Yogesh’s mother, brother, and sister also joined in pressuring Swathi to repay the loans, threatening to throw her out of the house if she failed. She alleged that Yogesh had taken Rs 46 lakh from her under duress.
Swathi further alleged that when she visited her husband’s house in Perdur, the family barred her entry unless she gave them money. Additionally, Yogesh allegedly called and issued death threats to her. The police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
