Kaup: A woman’s gold chain was snatched by an unidentified person while she was traveling on a train from Madurai to Mumbai.

Sundari Ganeshan, a resident of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, lost a 32-gram gold chain estimated to be worth around Rs. 1.70 lakhs.

The incident occurred on May 29 when Sundari Ganeshan, along with her husband, was traveling from Madurai to Panvel to visit her daughter in Mumbai. They were on the Tirunelveli-Dadar Superfast Express in the sleeper coach.

Sundari was sleeping on the lower berth number 76 in the S1 bogie after finishing her dinner at around 9:30 PM. When she woke up around 11:15 PM, she noticed that the train had stopped at a station.

The complaint says that the woman, who was asleep, felt someone yanking at the chain she was wearing around her neck. By the time she fully realized what had happened, the train had already departed from the station. She then noticed that her 28-gram gold chain, a yellow mangalsutra thread attached with 4-gram gold coins and two gold beads was missing.

She reported the incident to the TTE on the train and lodged a complaint about the snatched chain. Upon reaching Mumbai, she contacted the railway police, who identified the location of the theft as Innanje Railway Station.

A complaint was filed at the Kaup Police Station and a case has been registered.
