Udupi: Amidst the festive celebrations of Shri Krishna Janmashtami in Udupi, a group of performers dressed as Yama, Chitragupta, and ghosts, drew attention to the poor condition of local roads through a unique protest on the Adi Udupi-Malpe road.
The protest caught the attention of passersby and onlookers.
The performers, who typically entertain during the festival, chose to highlight the dangerous potholes that have plagued the road for days. They performed a mock long jump over the potholes, symbolizing the risks faced by commuters, with Yama, the god of death, humorously measuring the depth and breadth of each pothole.
Public Support for the Protest:
As the performers in their costumes of Yama, Chitragupta, and spirits jumped over the potholes, the gathered crowd cheered and whistled in support. The Yama character even measured the jumps, adding a layer of satire to the performance. The protest was well-received by the public, who have been struggling with the deteriorating road conditions for a long time.
Despite multiple complaints to local representatives and district authorities, the issue has remained unresolved. The innovative protest during the city’s special Krishna Janmashtami celebrations has once again brought the matter to the forefront. Locals are now urging the authorities to take immediate action and provide a permanent solution to the pothole-ridden roads.
