Udupi: Young Yakshagana artiste dies by suicide

Udupi: A young Yakshagana artiste died by suicide on Tuesday, June 30.

The deceased, Guruprasad Neerjeddu (26), had donned the female roles in Mandarthi, Madamakki, Amriteshwari, Saligrama and Marankatte Melas (troupes) for about 12 years.

Guruprasad was a promising artiste who trained in Yakshagana dance under Haradi Ramesh Ganiga at the Mandarthi Yakshagana Training Centre. It is gathered that he was appointed to the Haladi Mela for the next tour. He is survived by his mother, brother and his fans.
