Udupi: The present state of water scarcity being faced in the city has reduced slightly with 10 to 11MLD of water being supplied from Baje dam to Udupi city daily.
Most of the areas are receiving water through the city’s pipeline network itself. Excluding residences located at higher altitudes and a few residential and private buildings, the municipality has been successful in supplying water most other areas.
The silt removing work taken at the check valve near Baje dam was completed on Friday. The water at the water hole in Shiroor has already run dry. Water has almost emptied at Manaina hence the number of pumps there have been reduced. Water pumping from the water hole at Bhandary Betta and from the stream at Puttige has continued. “Anyhow, water is available for the next 15 to 18 days,” informs MLA Bhat.
Number of lakes has reduced
The number of calls coming to the municipality in connection to water problem has reduced. The number of tankers has been reduced. Presently, water is being supplied to residences at higher altitudes through water tankers.
“Those living in lower altitude areas must stop water connection soon after collecting the amount of water required for the household. Then it will be possible for the water to reach residences located at higher altitudes,” request officials from the municipality.
