An accident involving a tempo, a truck, and an auto-rickshaw near TB Cross on NH 73 in Ujire on Wednesday resulted in three individuals sustaining injuries, with one in a serious condition.
The accident unfolded as the driver of a concrete mixer truck, en route from Beltangady to Ujire, began to reduce the speed of the vehicle. Following suit, the auto-rickshaw trailing behind the truck also started slowing down. However, the tempo positioned behind the auto-rickshaw failed to brake in time, leading to a collision. Consequently, the auto-rickshaw was forcefully propelled forward and collided with the truck.
The auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Damodar (32) from Bantwal, bore the brunt of the impact and suffered severe injuries. Meanwhile, two passengers in the auto-rickshaw, Srijan (27) and Biju (38), both residents of Bantwal, sustained minor injuries and received immediate first aid at a local hospital. Following initial treatment, all three victims were transferred to a hospital in Mangaluru to receive advanced medical care.
The accident caused disruptions in traffic flow on the highway for over an hour as authorities worked to clear the scene and assist the injured parties. Beltangady traffic police have initiated an investigation into the incident and registered a case in connection with the accident.
