Belthangady: An RTI activist sustained severe burn injuries after the Vice President of Ujire Gram Panchayat allegedly threw boiling hot water at him on Tuesday.

The victim, Balasubramanya Bhat was subjected to this unruly treatment since he was trying to expose misappropriations committed by the GP Vice-President Vinutha Gowda under Basava Vasathi Yojane.

Following a complaint lodged by Bhat, Rajiv Gandhi Housing Programme authorities had instructed Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer to investigate the matter.

On Tuesday, the Executive Officer accompanied by Bhat and other team officials visited Vinutha’s residence. An irked Vinutha is said to have thrown hot water at Bhat. He is currently being treated for his burns at a government hospital.
