Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has received information that 18 people from the district are stranded in war-torn Ukraine. Some of them have journeyed to Moldova and Hungary by bus, train, and other means to escape from the war zone. However, the parents of some of the students failed to reach them by phone and are worried as the invasion intensifies.
Dakshina Kannada DC Dr. Rajendra KV informed that 12 of the 18 students stuck in Ukraine are in direct contact with their families. The rest are in touch with state agencies. Tehsildars have been sent to reassure the parents of these students in the district, he added.
Anaina Anna of Derebail in the city, who has begun her journey to Poland, has another worry. She is without a Indian passport which was collected by the agent who brought her to Ukraine. In a Twitter post, Anaina wrote “I am leaving the Kharkiv today without my passport. The agents have denied to give me my passport. The agent asked me to go and collect it when they were bombarding outside and then when asked to send somebody to collect it I was denied of my passport.” She also tagged the Twitter handles of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the post.

Speaking to Udayavani, Anaina said “A building next to our university building, where we were holed up, was blown up on Tuesday. so I left the bunker and boarded the train. But my passport is with the agent who asked me to come and get it.”
“It’s impossible to go anywhere as the bombing is intensifying. So, we left on the train without my passport. Please help me,” Anaina pleaded.
It may be recalled that Indian Embassy in Ukraine, on Tuesday, had issued an urgent advisory to all Indians to urgently vacate Kyiv and travel to the western borders as soon as possible.
