Mangaluru: With the urban local body elections round the corner, parties are busy circulating publicity materials to get the voters attention.
The publicity materials being used by the SDPI has definitely caught the public eye but for all the wrong reasons. The party has allegedly chosen to use the photographs of the husbands of female candidates rather than that of the women candidates themselves, thereby drawing severe criticism on social media.
Out of the nine candidates being fielded by the party for the upcoming election to the urban local body in Ullal, four seats are reserved for women candidates. Rukiya Iqbal, Shahnaz Akram Hasan, Khamarunnisa Nizam and Zareena Banu have been fielded from Kotepura, Ullal Kodi, Melangadi and Halekote ward respectively. But in all these cases the party has allegedly used the photos of their husbands on the publicity material.
