Ullal: Elederly woman dead, 2 others seriously injured in car accident

Ullal: An elderly woman died while two others were seriously injured after an Omni car hit the crash barrier on the side of the National Highway at Chila near here in the early hours of May 21.

The deceased has been identified as B Fathima (85), a resident of Kunjathur in Manjeshwar.

The accident occurred at 2 am on May 21 when the deceased woman along with her son Musa (50) and grandson Mustafa(24) was returning after attending a funeral of a relative at Adoor in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Mangaluru South traffic police station in this regard.

Did drowsiness cause the mishap?

It is learned that Mustafa was driving the ill-fated car and is believed to have dozed off behind the wheel, leading to the mishap. A motorist who witnessed the accident alerted the police patrol at Talapady.

Fatima who was seated in the front got pinned in the wreckage. She was rescued by the police but died on the way to the hospital. The injured were also rushed to a private hospital in Deralakatte.
