Ullal: Four persons have been arrested for vandalizing a CCTV camera and wire fencing that was erected to deter illegal sand mining at Someshwar beach, Ullal police said.

The arrested have been identified as Suraj, a resident of Madyar Sainagar, Iqbal of Mudipu Madhyanadka, Aqeel of Talapady, and Prajwal of Someshwar Mooda. The tipper lorry used in the crime has also been seized, police added.

The district administration had installed CCTV cameras near Talapady, Kotepura, and a few other places in order to curb sand smuggling.

On September 10, the accused purposefully used a tipper lorry to hit the pole on which the CCTV was installed near Someshwar. Due to the impact, the CCTV was damaged completely. However, the incident was recorded as the cameras were remotely connected via WiFi, police said.

The loss due to the incident is estimated to be around Rs 75,000, police added.
