Ullal: ‎The old tiled roof of the dilapidated old building of Government Higher Primary School in Kinya village collapsed on Monday night due to heavy rains for the past two days.

Following this, MLA U T Khader, education department officials, gram panchayat president, and revenue officials visited the spot.‎

‎For the past two years, the nearly 25-year-old building of the Higher Primary School was in a state of disrepair. The area of the rundown section of the building had been cordoned off and students were barred from entering the dangerous areas. Some classes were shifted to the nearby madrassa.

Classes are still continuing in the classroom next to the derelict section. Fortunately, the incident happened during the night hours when none were at the school premises.

‎A new structure is being built next to the building and will be ready for use in a couple of weeks, officials said. However, locals say the facilities in the newly built structure is insufficient. The school lacks adequate toilet facilities and at least 3 more classrooms are required, they said.
