Ullal: Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader carried out an inspection of areas affected by sea erosion from Kotekar to Someshwar Uchila Batappady and Talapady border. He has directed officials to take immediate action to safeguard homes and properties in New Uchila and Uchila Beach areas.
During an inspection with officials at erosion-hit areas like Kotekar, Mogaveerapatna, Seaground, New Uchila, and Uchila Batappady, Khader stated that breakwater works under the ADB project have minimized damage to homes. However, he noted the inadequate maintenance of these structures and directed officials to submit a maintenance cost estimate report to the government. This could lead to sustainable maintenance in the coming year.
Demand for Emergency Measures
Mogaveerapatna leaders Bharat Ullal, Sadananda Bangera, Sudhir V. Amin, and Dayanand requested the installation of another reef model to address the erosion problem. Khader assured phased resolution of the issue.
Threat to New Uchila Road
The sea’s turbulence near Vasco Resort in New Uchila threatens the Uchila-Someshwar road. Khader visited the area and assured local resident Yogesh, whose house is at risk, that immediate protective works would be undertaken to prevent damage.
Regulations for Private Coastal Landowners
Khader mentioned a new regulation requiring private landowners to obtain approval from officials before placing rocks along the coastline to prevent future public road and project disruptions.
Present during the inspection were Mangalore Assistant Commissioner Harshavardhan, Ullal Taluk Tahsildar Puttaraju, Port Department Officer Rajesh, Ullal Town Municipal Commissioner Vani V. Alva, Someshwar Town Municipality Chief Officer Muddadi, Kotekar Town Panchayat Chief Officer Malini, Revenue Officer Pramod Kumar, Ullal Block Congress President Ramesh Shetty Boliyaru, leaders Suresh Bhatnagar, Ravishankar Someshwar, Ayub Manchila, and Muhammad Mukkacheri.
