NRI woman Athira, who had moved India’s Supreme Court for repatriation from the UAE, gave birth to her first child on Tuesday, unaware that her husband had died a day before in Dubai
Earlier, Athira Geetha Sreedharan and her husband Nithin Chandran had filed a writ petition seeking help to return home for her delivery due in the first week of July.
Athira was repatriated in the first flight as part of Vande Bharat Mission and Nithin stayed back in Dubai and offered his ticket for another person.
But, on Monday, June 8, Nithin passed away in his sleep at their apartment in Dubai’s International City. He was suspected to have died of a heart-attack as he was suffering from high blood pressure and a heart condition.
As news of her husband’s death started to appear in the media including social media, Athira’s family decided to move her to a private hospital in Kozhikode.
The family then decided to opt for a caesarean section for Athira so that her child remains unharmed due to the shock and stress. The C section was conducted on Tuesday morning and Athira gave birth to a baby girl.
Sources claim, Nithin’s Covid-19 test report came out negative and it is confirmed that his death was due to a heart attack. Nithin’s body will be brought back to Perambra at the earliest.
