Uncertainty over Mangaluru river festival

Mangaluru: After the grand success of last year’s River Festival, there is uncertainty over the Mangaluru river festival 2020.
The District Tourism Development Committee planned to conduct the fest in Nadu Kudru island near Jappinamogaru in Netravathi River and proposed the state tourism division to grant 1 Cr, however, the chosen Island is too small to organize the festival and the committee is sceptical over security for the huge crowd visiting the festival.
As the Committee also needs to take additional permission from CRZ and forest department keeping in mind the technical difficulties involved in it, the Committee has dropped the idea of conducting the festival at the Island.
This year, the river festival was held in the river shores of Bangra Kuluru, Sultan Battery and Kuluru of the Phalguni river on January 12 and 13.
Assistant director of District Tourism Department Uday Kumar said, “We have decided to conduct an Island festival like last year’s river festival and proposed the same to the State Tourism Department. We will be dropping that idea due to some technical problems and planning to conduct the river festival.”
