Mangaluru: There is an “undeclared state of emergency” in the country due to the “dictatorial attitude” of the central government, alleged Karnataka Health & Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
He was addressing a protest organized by D.K. Zilla Congress near Mini Soudha in the city on Friday, to condemn the suspension of 146 opposition MPs from Parliament. Rao termed the suspensions as a “massacre of democracy.”
Glaring lapses in arrangements led to the security breach at the Parliament, but the MPs were suspended after asking the Home Minister to issue clarification in the House. No questioning allowed. Opposition leaders are being harassed using investigation agencies, he said.
In states where the opposition is in power, the office of governor is being used to cause trouble. The democratic, secular, and socialist values and culture of the country are being destroyed. Fundamental rights are eroding day by day. The situation is such that even the media cannot ask questions, he alleged.
If PM Modi becomes Prime Minister for the third time, even the Indian Constitution will not survive. leading to a scenario where there’s no room for dissent but only reverence for Prime Minister Modi, Dinesh Gundu Rao said and added that the fight against authoritarianism will continue.
