Bengaluru: The postmortem report of an undertrial prisoner at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison has revealed that he died following an assault on him inside the jail.
Fairoz (21), a hotelier and a resident of DJ Halli, was arrested by the DJ Halli police on January 9 on charges of drug peddling and was lodged at the Central Prison. He was being treated for Hematoma at the hospital in the jail premises. As he worsened, he was shifted to Victoria Hospital on January 21 and died on January 23.
Following Fairoz’s death, his family alleged he died due to excesses in the jail, and held jail officials responsible for his death. The family members had also said there were injury marks on his body when he was shifted to Victoria hospital.
Fairoz’s family members also said D.J. Halli police had intercepted him while he was riding a bike to check vehicle documents. As he was not having documents, the police demanded money from him but when he did not pay the money, the police fixed a false case against him.
The family members of Fairoz had moved court seeking justice, following an inquiry was ordered. The postmortem report established that he was assaulted.
