Union Govt Allows Import of 3 LMT Raw Sugar at 25% Import Duty

Mandya: Union government has sent good news for sugar mills in Karnataka and other parts of the country on Thursday. According to an order, the union government to supplement the availability of sugar in southern India and to stabilize sugar price, it allowed the import of 3 lakh metric tons (LMT) of raw sugar through southern ports of India at 25 % import duty under Open General License (Tariff Rate Quota) through millers and refiners.
The import shall be open to millers, refiners who have their own capacity to convert raw sugar into refined, white sugar. The imports will be allowed through the ports including, Tuticorin, Karaikal, Chennai, Mangaluru, Kakinada, Gangavaram and Vishakapatnam in the South. The scheme shall be operated by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) as per their rules and regulations.
