‘United in death’: Husband dies day after wife’s death in Katapadi

Katapadi: In a tragic incident, a couple from Udyavara passed away within a day of each other.
Juliana Helen Rebello (56), a teacher at Bailoor Main Government Higher Primary School in Karkala, passed away on November 28. Her husband, Lawrence D’Souza (62), a current member of Udyavara Gram Panchayat, succumbed to illness the following day.
Lawrence was a prominent social worker and served in various capacities, including three terms as vice president of the St. Francis Xavier Church parish council. He also held leadership roles in the Udyavara Gram Panchayat and Mandala Panchayat, dedicating over three decades to public service.
He was actively involved with organizations such as the Udupi Catholic Sabha, Lions Club, and Udyavara Friends Circle, earning recognition for his contributions to sports and agriculture.
Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Udupi District Congress President Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Kapu Block Congress President Santosh Kulal, and several other leaders, including church priests and community members, expressed their condolences.
