Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada police arrested another accused in connection to the Unnikrishana murder case. With this, the total arrests in the case has gone up to five.
Anas, 40, a notorious gangster from Kerala was arrested from Kakanad. Earlier the police had arrested Jeethu Sajee, 23, Suhail Nazar, 22, Aurangazeb, 37, all residents of Ernakulam and Mohammed Shamnaz, 23, a resident of Palakkad.
Unnikrishnan’s dead body had been found from the Kuppetti rivulet near Uppinangady on September 3 and a case of unnatural death was registered. Post-mortem reports of the deceased, however, revealed that he had been murdered and accordingly a case was registered under various sections of the IPC, including Section 302 (murder) at the Uppinangadi police station.
It is gathered that Anas has several associates, who are engaged in illegal activities such as gold smuggling, kidnapping, land deals etc. Several cases have been booked against him in Kerala.
According to police sources, Unnikrishnan was a close aide of Anas and would look after his illegal activities. It is still not clear why he planned to murder a member of his own gang.
