Mangaluru/Udupi: After a brief respite, rains returned to various parts of Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday evening, accompanied by thunder and light showers.
Areas such as Belthangady, Ujire, Dharmasthala, Guruvayanakere, Gurippalla, Gerukatte, Bandaru, Ilanthila, Bantwal, BC Road, Mulki, Kinnigoli, Haleangady, Bajpe, Surathkal, and parts of Mangaluru city experienced light to moderate rainfall.
Dense clouds and heavy thunderstorms brought sudden rains in the evening. Gusty winds also caused power disruptions in several areas. The rain subsided post 10 PM in most places.
In rural areas, sudden unseasonal rains soaked arecanut that was laid out to dry. Cultural programs, Yakshagana performances, village festivals, and religious rituals were disrupted due to the sudden showers.
Belthangady: Light Showers
Belthangady taluk witnessed moderate rainfall in areas such as Belthangady and Layila, while Ujire and Dharmasthala experienced drizzle. The evening showers provided relief to the residents, who had endured a hot and humid day.
Weather Changes and Predictions
A low-pressure area near the Comorin region in the Arabian Sea has resulted in increased cloud movement, likely causing rainfall over the next couple of days.
Temperature Fluctuations
The districts recorded similar rainfall patterns in January last year. Meteorological predictions indicate cloudy and sunny weather for the next two days. On January 14, the maximum temperature rose to 34°C, 0.8°C above normal, while the minimum temperature reached 25°C, 4°C higher than usual.
