A woman hailing from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh has filed a complaint with the consumer court alleging that a pizza restaurant chain’s outlet delivered her a non-veg pizza. She claimed that it caused her ‘mental agony,’ because of which she has demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore from the restaurant chain.

Deepali Tyagi who is a pure vegetarian has filed a petition which cites that the incident has spoiled her religious practices and has demanded damages for it.

In her petition, Deepali said she is a pure vegetarian because of her religious beliefs, teachings, family traditions, own conscience.

As per her petition, Deepali had ordered a vegetarian pizza from the outlet near her house in Ghaziabad on March 21, 2019.

She informed that it was the Holi festival that day and that her family was hungry when she decided to place the order. The restaurant failed to deliver food within their time frame of 30mins and when the pizza arrived, the family took a bite of it and realized that the pizza had meat in it instead of mushroom.

Deepali’s lawyer Farhat Warsi informed the consumer court and complained about the negligence of delivering non-veg pizza.

The district manager of the outlet called her four days later and offered to serve pizzas to Deepali’s family free of cost, to which Deepali didn’t agree as the incident had caused her family long-standing mental agony and that she had to undergo long and expensive religious rituals her entire life.

Deepali alleged the restaurant of having a casual approach towards the matter and that the offer of serving free pizzas was a mockery, an insult to the social and financial status.

Deepali has urged that the pizza outlet must pay her compensation for mental harassment and financial difficulties that were caused. The pizza outlet has been asked to file a reply to the woman’s complaint. The next hearing has been set for March 17.
