Uppinangady: 5 shops gutted after fire engulfs building

Five shops were destroyed after a fire engulfed a multi-storey building on Bank Road in Uppinangady on Friday night.

The fire broke out in Prithvi Mahal, located near the post office on Bank Road. A mobile phone shop, footwear outlet, fancy store, and two other ground-floor shops were destroyed and the estimated loss runs into lakhs of rupees.

Upon receiving information, fire brigade personnel arrived at the scene and carried out fire-dousing operation thus preventing further damage.

It is gathered that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire.

Uppinangady police quickly arrived at the scene and took appropriate precautionary measures.
