Uppinangady: A wild bison was shot and killed to serve as meat for a birthday celebration, forest officials said.
The officers seized the gun used for the kill and the bison meat, which was stored in a freezer at the accused’s house.
The accused, Suresh, a resident of Gundya in Shiradi village, along with his accomplices, allegedly shot the bison in a protected forest area. They stored the meat in their home’s freezer for a feast planned to celebrate Suresh’s son’s birthday.
Based on a tip-off, the Uppinangady sub-zone forest officer Yathindra, along with department staff Sunil and Shivananda, conducted a raid at Suresh’s house. They seized the gun and meat and registered a case.
However, during the operation, the accused managed to escape by swimming across the Gundya river. Uppinangady Forest Officer Raghavendra is investigating the case.
