In a commendable display of presence of mind, a conductor took control of a government bus and averted a potential disaster after the driver experienced chest pain while the vehicle was in motion.
The incident occurred on the Subrahmanya-Mangaluru route with a bus belonging to the Mangaluru depot, carrying around 30 passengers. As the bus approached Athoor near Kadaba Taluk, the driver, Ganapathi, began experiencing severe chest pain. Sensing the emergency, he slowed the bus down.
Conductor Vishnu, noticing the unusual reduction in speed, approached the driver and found him unable to speak or control the bus. Acting swiftly, Vishnu moved Ganapathi from the driver’s seat and took control of the steering. He skillfully drove the bus for about 7 kilometers to the Uppinangady bus station, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
Ganapathi was immediately transported to a hospital in Mangaluru for treatment, and alternative arrangements were made for the passengers. The timely action and quick thinking of conductor Vishnu earned praise from the passengers, who hailed him as a hero for his lifesaving efforts.
