Uppinangady lathi-charge incident: Another accused arrested

Puttur: Police arrested another person accused of attempting to stab Bantwal rural police station Sub-Inspector Prasanna Kumar during the protests at the Uppinangady police station on December 14 last year.
Muhammad Haneef (41), a resident of Borugudde in Kukkala village in Madanthyaru was arrested near on Tuesday, January 11, police said.
He has been produced before the court on allegations of a murder attempt on the sub-inspector.
It may be recalled that protests held outside the Uppinangady police station, demanding the release of PFI leaders arrested, had turned violent on December 14 last year. Police had resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protestors. The incident had hogged the limelight.
A total of 18 accused have been arrested so far for assault on police officials during the protest.
