Uppinangady: Bus staff and passengers caught a middle-aged man who allegedly sexually harassed a student on the bus at Uppinangady on Saturday and handed him over to the police.
The accused, identified as Ashraf (45) a resident of Perne, allegedly sexually harassed a girl who boarded the KSRTC bus, moving from Bengaluru towards Mangaluru, at Nelyadi. He allegedly groped the girl and tried to force her to touch his private parts on the moving bus.
The girl raised an alarm after which the accused tried to escape from the spot. However, he was caught by the co-passengers and the bus staff who handed him over to the police.
Police said the victim refused to lodge a complaint fearing that she would miss her classes. But, a case has been registered against Ashraf for misbehaviour in a public place. It is gathered that the accused works as a lorry driver and is married with children.
