A wedding ceremony in Konalu village of Kadaba taluk had to be called off after the bride refused to tie the knot on April 26.
The marriage between a man from Konalu village and a woman from Kula village in Bantwal was scheduled to take place at Sri Shanmukha temple in Kanchana Perla on Friday.
The ceremony commenced as planned, with the bride and groom arriving at the temple amidst a wedding procession. However, as the groom was about to tie the ‘taali’ (mangalsutra), symbolizing the marital bond, the bride expressed her reluctance to proceed with the marriage.
This sudden refusal caused distress among both families. The matter escalated and both parties reached the Uppinangadi police station.
Preparations for the post-wedding banquet had been made, including arrangements for a non-vegetarian meal for approximately 500 guests. However, due to the abrupt cancellation, significant financial losses were incurred by both parties.
Despite efforts to reconcile at the police station, where the bride expressed remorse and willingness to proceed with the marriage, the groom ultimately declined to continue with the alliance. Following this decision, both families returned home after formalities were completed at the police station.
