Bengaluru: A first-year B Sc (Agriculture) student of the University of Agriculture Sciences in Bengaluru is suspected to have ended his life by jumping before a moving train allegedly due to ragging by his seniors.
The deceased has been identified as Gagan, a native of Gauribidanur in Kolar. His body was recovered from near the railway tracks that crisscrosses the university campus at around 10 pm on Tuesday.
In a police complaint, Gagan’s parents alleged that ragging by senior students in the hostel might have led him to take the extreme step.
Gagan’s uncle Mallesh said that he was a bright student and had secured a government seat in the college. Gagan would often complain about harassment at the hostel when he came to village every week, he added.
Police said that initial investigations suggest that this is a case of suicide and a detailed probe will be conducted into the circumstances that led him to take the extreme step.
A case of unnatural death has been registered.
