Subrahmanya: The Urulu Seve, one of the unique Sevas (religious services) offered to the deity at Sri Kukke Subramanya, began on Wednesday night.
As part of the Seva, devotees take a dip in the Kumaradhara river and perform body rolls on the main road and the car street (Ratha Beedi) to reach the temple, circumambulate around the temple Sanctorum and thereafter take a bath in the waters of Darpana Theertha, to receive the Darshan of the deity and Prasadam.
Some devotees performed the Seve in the early hours and evening on Thursday. There is a rush during the important days of Panchami and Chauthi. The service will continue till the Shashti on which Maharathotsava will be held.
A separate track has been provided on the roads for Urulu Seve for the convenience of the devotees. The temple management advised the devotees to perform the Seva during the late evening or early morning hours as the concrete path will be too hot during the daytime.
Ban on trade by non-Hindus?
A banner stating that trade activities by persons of other religions are prohibited on the occasion of Champashashti was found near the entrance of the temple near Kumaradhara. The banner says that it has been put up by The Hindu Jagran Vedike Subramanya unit. The organization has also requested Subramanya police not to allow non-Hindus to do business during the fair.
