Mangaluru: Netravati River provides water to Mangaluru city limits and as the water level at Thumbay dam which is sourced by the river has dropped considerably, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has requested the people to use water judiciously.
The inflow of water from the river had stopped in the month of February. As there is no rainfall, the water level has fallen and on Wednesday the water level at the dam stood at 5.80 meters.
96 hours water-48 hours’ stoppage
With the aim to not to cause any trouble to the public regarding drinking water, henceforth the corporation will be providing water for 4 days or a total of 96 hours within its limits. This will be followed by complete stoppage of water distribution for 48 hours. The rationing measures is temporary. If there is rain and the water level rises in the river, then the water distribution will revert back to its regular method.
Public must not make use of the drinking water for cleaning vehicles or for their home gardens. They must also use the water judiciously and see to it that water is not wasted. Those residing in low lying areas with a good supply of water must make limited use of water and close the gate valve at their home, thereby cooperating to provide water to the residents in elevated areas, requested the corporation commissioner in a release.
