Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force: All you need to know

Uttar Pradesh government rolled out a blueprint of ‘Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force’ (UPSSF)

The special force will be empowered to search any premises or arrest any person without any warrant or orders of a court. It will cater to the security of metro railways, courts, airports, banks and other vital installations in the state

It envisaged as having “high-level professional skills”, which would reduce the burden on the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), which could then focus on law and order.

The force will also have the right to remove trespassers on the premises under its protection. As reported by Indian Express, No suit or prosecution shall lie against any officer or member of the force or against any person on acting under the order or the direction of any officer or member of the force for anything, which is done or intended to be done in good faith.

It will be led by an Additional Director General-level officer, followed by an Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General, Commandant, and Deputy Commandant.

The UPSSF will set up on the basis of orders of the Allahabad High Court, which had expressed its displeasure over the security at civil courts in December 2019 over shootout incidents at Bijnor and Muzaffarnagar courts. The government will recruit 9,919 security personnel in five battalions of the special force.

However, it has been criticised by many saying that the force may violate the power given to them and also that special protection given to the UPSSF force will be misused.
