Vacant houses to be used for quarantine: MP Shobha

Kundapura: MP Shobha Karandlaje on Friday, May 22 stated that empty houses in rural areas could be used for quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among those staying in designated quarantine centres.
She was speaking at a meeting to discuss containing the spread of the virus at the taluk panchayat office here.
She further stated that there are already 4,013 people in quarantine centres located in Kundapur and Byndoor taluks. These numbers will increase as more people will be arriving from the Gulf and European countries.
District Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha speaking at the meeting stated that of the arrivals it is estimated that up to 10% of people could be infected. For this, hospitals with 400 beds have been identified in Udupi, Kundapura, Udyavar and Karkala. Separate physicians and medical will be deployed at these hospitals. The assistance of the Indian Medical Association is been sought. A panel of 12 specialist doctors has been formed to treat serious cases.
Byndoor MLA B M Sukumara Shetty, District Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju, ASP Hariram Shankar, Taluk Health Officer Dr Nagabhushana Udupa, Tahsildars Tippeeswamy, Kiran Goraya, Taluk Panchayat Vice President Ramkishan Hegde, Zilla Panchayat members and Town Council members were present.
