Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the validity of documents such as driving license, registration certificate (RC), and permits has been extended till September 30, 2021.
The government had earlier set the deadline for the same for June 30.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), the above documents which had expired by February 1, 2021, or are due to expire by June 30 and could not be renewed due to the lockdown will now be valid until September 2021.
MORTH said, “Taking into consideration the grim situation still continuing in this regard, it is advised that the validity of all the above-referred Documents, whose extension of validity could or not likely be granted due to lock-down and which had expired since February 1, 2020, or would expire by September 30, 2021, the same may be treated to be valid till September 30, 2021.”
The ministry had issued advisories dated March 30, 2020, June 2020, August 24, 2020, and December 24, 2020 and March 26, 2021 to all states and Union Territories regarding extension of validity of the documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
MORTH advised that in case of Fitness, permit (all types), Driving License, Registration, or any other concern documents whose extension of validity could not or was not granted due to lockdown and which had expired since February 1, 2020, or would expire by June 30, 2021, the same may be treated to be valid till 30th of June, 2021.
The deadline for the same has been extended with a fresh notification.
Due to lock-down being at various stages in the country, the relaxation has been granted as it noticed the problems being faced by the citizens in the renewal of the documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. The government has allowed vehicles for the transport of such goods and cargo and further opened up the operation of passenger transport.
