In connection with the Valmiki Corporation scam, Karnataka’s Social Welfare Minister, B. Nagendra, has reportedly resigned from his ministerial position.
Facing increasing pressure from opposition parties, Minister Nagendra submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today. However, Nagendra told a TV channel that he has not yet resigned.
The Chief Minister had allegedly instructed Nagendra to step down following the initiation of a CBI investigation into the illegal transfer of funds from the Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.
The SIT is already investigating the misappropriation of over Rs. 50 crore in this case. The CBI has also taken up the investigation, filing a suo motu case due to the substantial misuse of funds.
During a meeting, concerns were raised about the potential embarrassment to the government if the CBI were to arrest or interrogate Minister Nagendra.
A few days ago, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge also advised the Chief Minister to obtain Nagendra’s resignation to avoid further disgrace. Consequently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed Nagendra to resign from his ministerial post.
