The death of a youth who had hanged himself has stirred controversy, with speculation about foul play and calls for a thorough investigation.
The deceased, identified as Padmanabha Samantha, hailed from Timaradda in the Vamadapada area.
Known locally as a Congress worker and serving as the Vice-President of the District Congress Backward Classes, Padmanabha was active in utilizing Right to Information (RTI) to disseminate information on social media platforms.
However, recent accusations of fraud, allegedly involving a sum of 1.50 lakhs taken to secure a government job for a youth, tarnished his reputation. A complaint had been filed against him at the Punjalakatta police station by the aggrieved youth.
Despite assurances to the police that he would cooperate with inquiries, Padmanabha had been unreachable for the past three days, with calls to his phone going unanswered.
Padmanabha, who resided with his mother and brother was found hanging in the hills behind his residence, only brought to attention by a pungent odor on Sunday morning.
While preliminary investigations by the police suggest suicide, the truth awaits confirmation pending the post-mortem examination. Law enforcement officials have initiated inquiries at the scene and have registered a case of unnatural death, with investigations ongoing.
Former minister B. Ramanatha Rai visited the residence to offer condolences and support to the grieving family members.
Suicide is preventable. If you get any such thoughts, consult or seek expert help.
