Various facilities for transgender community: DC

Udupi: The district administration is putting in efforts to integrate transgender community into the mainstream society, said the district deputy commissioner G jagadeesh, speaking during a meeting convened for the development of transgender minorities at DC office on Thursday Oct 3rd.
Mr Jagadeesh informed that in order to the members of the transgender community get oppoertunities for employment and self-employment, a list in this concern would be submitted to the department of Women and Child Development within a week.
“A list of those who require housing will be submitted to the GP. Around 75 acres of land has been identified for this purpose and another 75 acres of land remains to be identified in the district,” said the DC.
Awareness programmes will be organised in all schools and colleges informed the Dc and added that all departmental authorities in the district will raise awareness about the transgender community among the general public. A task force will also be set up in the police department.
The DC said that he will extend all necessary assistance to the transgender community to live in the mainstream society but at the same time, strict action will be taken against those from the community who needlessly disturb the citizens and vehicles.
Measures will be taken to conduct a Gender Minority Survey in the district, informed the DC.
