Mangaluru: Former MLA JR Lobo has alleged that vested interests have hijacked the vaccination drive in the district and is administering it only to people closer to them.

Speaking at a news conference here on Monday, Lobo said that many second dose beneficiaries of the vaccine are waiting for the shot and if they are not administered it within the stipulated time limit then the entire drive will be useless.

“There are reports that there is interference by vested interests who are prioritising their supporters for the vaccination,” he alleged.

Attacking Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath for his statement that Congress leaders have done nothing to improve the healthcare infrastructure in the district, Lobo said that it was the Congress ministers who made all the developments in Wenlock hospital.

He further challenged Kamath for an open debate on the issue.
