Veteran actor Om Puri passes away after massive heart attack

Mumbai: Veteran actor Om Puri passed away after a massive heart attack early on Friday morning at the age of 66.

Filmmaker Ashok Pandit, also a close friend the actor, shared the news on Twitter: “Sad & shocked to know that versatile actor Om Puri jee has expired due to heart attack early morning today. #RIP.”

The mortal remains have been kept at the actor’s residence in Andheri where friends and colleagues from Bollywood will pay their last respects.

Om Puri acted in mainstream Bollywood cinema as well as Pakistani, British and Hollywood films. He was also conferred with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India.

Puri was an alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India as well as National School of Drama and was on the forefront of the art films movement in the 70s. He had worked in several acclaimed films including Bhavni Bhavai (1980), Sadgati (1981), Ardh Satya (1982), Mirch Masala (1986) and Dharavi (1992).
