Vice president Venkaiah Naidu lauds ASHA worker cum auto driver who helped woman in labour

Udupi: Vice president M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday, July 25 lauded an Asha worker cum auto driver from Udupi who drove a pregnant woman to a hospital 18 kms away from Pernankila village here at around 3 am on Thursday, July 23.
Taking to Twitter Naidu wrote, “A woman auto driver from Karnataka’s Udupi district drove a pregnant woman to a hospital 18 kms away from Pernankila village here at around 3 am, I appreciate her noble gesture.”
“Rajivi, Asha worker cum auto driver does not charge any money for a pregnant woman visiting hospitals for delivery, she is a true inspiration yo many other women. May God bless her,” the vice president said in another tweet.
Rajivi learnt to drive auto from her husband. After the latter’s death, she is working as an auto driver for her livelihood. She works as an ASHA worker till noon and later she drives one of the autos owned by her. The other auto has been rented out.
ASHA worker Rajivi received a call around 3 am that a pregnant woman, Srilatha was experiencing labour pain and had to be taken to a hospital. Soon after Rajivi drove to their place and got the lady admitted to the Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Haji Abdulla Government Women and Children’s Hospital Udupi. Srilatha delivered a girl baby on Thursday and both the child and the mother are healthy.
