A 5-month-old baby escaped unhurt after a tree crashed through the roof of their house over his crib, terrifying the mother of the child.

Courtney and Kale Buccholtz’s 5-month-old son, Cannon, was sleeping in his crib at their home in Prairieville, near Baton Rouge in Louisiana. The tree crashed through the roof, sending debris raining from the ceiling.

The terrifying moment was captured on Cannon’s baby monitor.

The baby’s parents thought that lightning struck their house until Courtney checked the baby monitor and saw debris flying into the infant’s room. The couple found out that a giant oak tree had fallen through the roof.

“When I saw the tree I almost couldn’t even comprehend what was happening, that there was a tree in our house. And the thought of it being on top of Cannon, I felt physically ill,” baby’s mum told GMA.

The parents were relieved to find that the baby was alive.

Kale said, “He had been crying, but as soon as I got him in my hands, he was laughing as I was turning him,”

The baby escaped the incident without a scratch and had to be washed clean of the debris that fell from the ceiling. The family evacuated the house and went to a relative’s home nearby. Later when  Kale returned home later, he found that the weight of the tree had destroyed nearly the entire house.
