Vidhana Parishad Chairman election: Basavaraj Horatti submits nomination papers

Belagavi: BJP leader and MLC Basavaraj Horatti, on Tuesday, submitted his nomination papers for the office of the Chairman of Vidhana Parishad.
Horatti submitted the nomination papers to the Vidhana Parishad secretary K R Mahalakshmi today.
With this, the tug-of-war between factions within the BJP camp regarding the party’s nominee for the post has reached a logical conclusion.
Horatti, who had been the Chairman of the Upper House prior to his switch over to BJP, was announced to be BJP’s official candidate on Monday. The nomination of Horatti, who had changed allegiance to BJP this year from JDS, had reportedly created discontent within the BJP.
BJP leaders and members of the legislature including B S Yediyurappa, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, R Ashok, Murugesh Nirani, and J C Madhuswamy, among others accompanied him during nomination submission.
It seems that Bommai and Yediyurappa’s faction prevailed against former CM Jagadish Shettar’s faction in the Horatti’s nomination. Those who supported acting Chairman Raghunath Malkapure for the post seems to have suffered a setback.
