Vijay Diwas: Tributes paid to 1971 Indo-Pak war martyrs at War Memorial in Kadri Hills

Mangaluru: The Vijay Diwas program, to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak war was held at the War memorial in Kadri Hills here on Wednesday, December 16.

The guests at the program, organised by Dakshina Kannada district Ex-Servicemen’s Association in collaboration with Lions Club International District 317 D, Nitte Education Trust and Shri Shasthavu Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust, paid respectful homage to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty by laying wreaths at the memorial site.

Vijay Diwas is celebrated on December 16 every year. On this day in 1971, over 90,000 Pakistani soldiers had surrendered before Indian troops, bringing to an end the bitterly fought war on the eastern and western fronts. It also led to the creation of Bangladesh
