Mangaluru: Pointing out that the process of merger of banks had been initiated when UPA government was in power, Vijaya Bank retired officers on Tuesday, April 9 questioned why then union ministers – Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes – did not oppose merger of Vijaya Bank.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday here Vijaya Bank retired officer Balappa Shetty said that few Congress leader today are blaming BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for the merger but Moily and Fernandes who could have possibly stopped the merger did nothing even Vijaya Bank’s name featured in the merger list.
These leaders are now delivering statements for political gain, he said.
Further he added that while J R Lobo and Ivan D’Souza pressurised the state government and brought a stay on road renaming they maintained silence when Mulky Sundaram Shetty was insulted. On Mithun Rai’s claim that he will withdraw merger of Vijaya Bank if voted to power he said that this was impossible.
Vijaya Bank retired officers Jayanth Shetty, Somanath Shetty, Mohan Shetty and Ramakrishna Shetty were present.
