Vijayapura: Centenarian woman, her son climb tree due to floods; rescued

Vijayapura: Due to swelling of Bhima river many parts of the districts were flooded. A centenarian woman and her son who had climbed a tree to save themselves from the incoming floodwater were successfully rescued by the district administration.

The incident occurred at Hingani village in Indi taluk on the banks of the Bhima river.

The mother-son duo have been identified as Nilavba (110) and Shivamallappa (60).

Over 3.50 lakh cusecs of water were discharged from the Ujani and Veera reservoir in Maharashtra which made the Bhima overflow and has caused severe flooding in the Vijayapura district.

On the morning of Friday, October 16, the villagers informed the rescue team, that had arrived at the village, to rescue the elderly mother and son sitting on a tree to protect themselves from the flooding.
