Vijayapura: Man loses Rs 39 lakh to Facebook ‘friend’

Vijayapura:  A 30-year-old man in Vijayapura has lost Rs 39 lakh after he was conned by a lady whom he met on Facebook.

The victim identified as Parameshwara Hipparagi, hailing from Sindagi Taluk is working in a private company in Bengaluru.

On June 29, he received a friend request from a girl named Manjula K.R. They began chatting on messenger and a on August 14 she demanded Rs 700 from him for her mother’s treatment.

Two days later, she claimed that her mother died and asked for Rs 2,000. Further, she claimed that she passed the IAS exam and will soon move to Bengaluru for which she will need Rs 20,000.

Parameshwara claims that he paid a total of Rs 39 lakh to Manjula. A case has been registered.
