Vijayapura: Rare post-COVID-19 brain disease reported in 13-year-old patient

Vijayapura: A 13-year-old patient from Vijayanagara district has been diagnosed with Acute Necrotizing Encephalopathy of Childhood (ANEC), a rare post-COVID-19 complication that affects the brain.

The patient was admitted to hospital a few days ago with an inactive brain and was put on ventilator for three days. Doctors said that ANEC is similar to Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C), affecting the brain of the patient. that the patient is from the Hoovinahadagali taluka in Vijaynagar district.

The treatment is very costly as each injection costs anywhere between Rs 75,000 and Rs 1 lakh for every child weighing around 30 kg.

It is the first such case in Karnataka and the second in India.
