Virajpet: New bridge connecting K’taka and Kerala to be ready by year end

Virajpet: The works on the new bridge at Makutta in the taluk here that connects Karnataka and Kerala will be completed before December.

The present bridge across the Kootupole was built in 1928 and is single-laned causing too many problems to the dense vehicular traffic that passes over it.

The road through the bridge connects Bengaluru, Mysuru and Kodagu in Karnataka with Kannur and Talassery in Kerala.

The works on the bridge was started in 2013 by the Kerala government but was stopped due to objections from Karnataka’s Forest Department.

All issues were resolved and the works recommenced this year.
