Viral: Ads and posters showing women being whitewashed in Kabul

As the Taliban took control over Afghanistan, a picture has gone viral of a man covering up pictures of women painted on a wall in Kabul.

Many advertisements of women wearing wedding dresses appear to have been painted over in Kabul after Taliban fighters entered Afghanistan’s capital.

Despite a Taliban spokesperson’s claim, the militant group “will respect rights of women”, but also said that they will have to wear the hijab in public, the incident occurred.

A Taliban spokesperson asserted, “We will respect the rights of women. Our policy is that women will have access to education and work, only if they wear the hijab.”
